This motto comes from a story from the court of Henry VIII ~
A panther was said to have escaped from her cage, and found some way away ready to spring upon an unsuspecting woman & infant. Having hurried to the top of a hill a mile away, the hunter still breathless from his ascent spotted the beast and was preparing to shoot the panther with his bow.
His son, fearing that his father in haste might weaken the accuracy of the force of his shot called to his father "Take Breath, Pull Strong"
In taking this advice, the hunter paused, took a breath and drew his bow strongly with a sure aim; and so killed the panther and saved the woman.
