Orange Tree {Generosity}
During the Victorian era flowers often bore hidden messages to those who received them. Sentiments such as longing, bashfulness, and true love could be conveyed through the flowers given & received.
This pendant features an Orange tree branch, with both blossoms and a ripe Orange. During the Victorian era, Orange blossoms were commonly worn in bridal veils, and tucked into bouquets, likewise Oranges were given in Christmas stockings.
As Oranges had to be shipped in from the Mediterranean, they were considered an expensive, and exotic novelty. Their luxury during the Victorian era is why the Orange became symbolic of generosity.
Handcrafted from the impression of a French, early 19th century wax seal set.
